Root cause analysis is a process based on the belief that the solution to problems is addressing, correcting or eliminating its root causes, instead of merely taking care of visible symptoms. By rooting out the causes and correcting what is the problem at the base, the probability that the problem will recur is prevented.
Identification of actions done and not done and the kind of behaviours that contributed to the problem is done in the analysis. However in the practice of root cause analysis, it is recognized the possibility that one corrective action alone cannot completely prevent recurrence of a problem.
